McKay Education Building

The David O. McKay Education Building houses the Jerry & Vickie Moyes School of Education, which includes the departments of Teacher Education and Child and Family Studies, and is where we prepare brilliant educators in Utah’s most modern teaching space.

The building is scheduled to reopen for academic classes at the start of the fall 2025 semester, with the official ribbon-cutting ceremony to take place in October for Homecoming Week.

In May 2023, the McKay Education Building underwent a complete renovation to modernize and upgrade its teaching and learning spaces.

Originally built in 1972, the McKay Education Building was stripped to its frame and foundation, and rebuilt to provide updated classrooms, new study spaces, increased natural light and roof-mounted solar panels.

One of the standout features of the renovation is its incorporation of biophilic design. This architectural approach, which integrates nature into the design, will create a calming and creative atmosphere. The increased natural light will further enhance the overall learning environment of our classrooms.

Additionally, the building will house a maker space called the Fabrication Lab. This lab will equip students and faculty with the necessary tools and resources to create innovative materials for their lessons and classes, fostering a culture of creativity, exploration and innovation.

As a crucial consideration for the safety of the children and families, the building design will also include designated secure access points for the Melba S. Lehner Children's School and Charter Academy.
