Weber State University's Department of History has received the Essential Employability Qualities Certification (EEQ CERT) from after a rigorous review process.

EEQ-certified programs foster a distinctive set of attributes in their graduates and completers. These qualities prepare students to navigate and succeed in today's evolving workforce. The eight Essential Employability Qualities are communication, teamwork, critical thinking, creativity & problem solving, learning & adaptability, professionalism & responsibility, and digital literacy. Programs participating in EEQ CERT are scored on five categories that represent a comprehensive and integrated framework for employability - EEQ Preparation, Employer Engagement, Integrated Career Support Services, Learner Engagement, and Transparency of Outcomes.

Degree Programs

Bachelor of Arts in History

As a history major, you’ll learn about the perspectives and experiences of earlier generations. History graduates have the research and analytical skills to begin their career or graduate studies.

Bachelor of Arts in History Teaching

In addition to studying history, you’ll learn to effectively present your knowledge to a range of students using advanced teaching methods. Our history teaching graduates become secondary school history teachers and go on to graduate studies.

Social Science Composite Teaching

Along with the benefits of earning your bachelor’s in history, our teaching composite program prepares you to teach a range of social science subjects, including history, political science, sociology, anthropology, psychology and geography.

Our minors offer research and analytical skills to complement any field of study.

Emphases include history, history teaching, public history and Asian studies.

Outstanding Faculty

Tracey Smith won a 2024 91�� Faculty Award from the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at BYU and the 2022 Outstanding Faculty in Honors Award

Leah LaGrone was recognized with the spring 2024 91�� Outstanding Honors Faculty Award.

Matt Romaniello received a 2022 Franklin Research Grant from the American Philosophical Society to conduct research in the United Kingdom for his new book, Unplanned Obsolescence: Modernity and the Loss of the Natural World, a study of sustainable materials before the industrial era. Congratulations!
