Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Service Technology (AAS)

The Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Service Technology prepares students to work safely and effectively in the automotive industry. Students learn to use appropriate safety equipment and tools during vehicle repairs, access and apply electronic service information and understand the operation of vehicle systems and components. The program emphasizes proper diagnostic techniques for identifying system faults, performing repair procedures and verifying that repairs have been completed correctly.

Students can choose between two specialized tracks: the Independent Shop ATEP Track or the Heavy Duty Truck Track. The Independent Shop ATEP Track requires 44 credit hours and includes courses in braking systems, steering and suspension, drivetrain systems, automotive electronics, hybrid and electric vehicle safety, engine performance and shop practice. The Heavy Duty Truck Track, requiring 41 credit hours, focuses on systems specific to heavy-duty trucks, such as brakes, suspension, engines, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance, along with shared core courses and hands-on shop experience.

  1. Independent Shop ATEP Track  (44 major credits)
    Covers a wide range of automotive service skills including: Braking systems, steering/suspension, electronics, hybrid & EV systems, engine performance, and shop practice
  2. Heavy Duty Truck Track (41 major credits)
    Focuses on systems specific to heavy-duty vehicles: Truck brakes, suspension, engines, drivetrains, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance
