Internship Opportunities

Internships provide students with the unique opportunity of stepping out of the classroom to enhance their education and gain experience in a real-world setting. Participating in internships at the local, state, and national levels allows students to gain valuable insight into the political system and public service, and get a head start on a successful career.

Internships are available through the Walker Institute on the national, state, and local level. Application intake periods are in October, February, and April. Be on the lookout for application deadlines.

Apply for an Internship

Once you have submitted your application, the Walker Institute staff will review your information, and contact you about the available opportunities. If you already know you are interested in a specific internship, we will work with you on your application materials and prepare you to apply to that office. Interns are selected on the basis of academic achievement, writing skills, letters of recommendation, and area of interest.

The Walker Institute provides internships opportunities with the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, the state legislative offices, non-profit groups and other organizations.
