Internships

Combining academic learning with real-world experience is an excellent way to build your résumé while earning credit toward your degree. These internships are usually taken through your academic department and involve faculty oversight, specific learning objectives, and regular reflection or reporting.

Participating in a for-credit internship allows you to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to professional settings, gain career-relevant experience, and fulfill degree requirements while also counting it as a HIEE for the Wildcat Advantage program.

• How do I participate in this HIEE?

  Internship course eligibility varies by department. Some programs require internships as part of the major and designate a specific semester or level of progression when students must complete them. Others offer internships as elective opportunities. Check with your academic advisor or the department internship coordinator to determine your eligibility.

• What information must I verify in GivePulse?

  In GivePulse, log your experience under the Internship impact type. Complete the internship survey, include your course information, and provide a link to an internship artifact in your ePortfolio.

• What should I include in my ePortfolio?

  In your ePortfolio, reflect on your internship experience, highlighting the skills and knowledge you developed and how this experience will help you progress toward your academic and career goals. Also, share any challenges you faced and how you overcame them.

  Add at least one internship artifact to your ePortfolio that captures your learning and accomplishments, including samples of work or projects you completed, a written report, presentation, portfolio piece, video, or another product that demonstrates your contributions and growth.

Internships don’t have to be for academic credit to be valuable. Many students gain hands-on experience through internships arranged independently. These internships still provide real-world learning, skill development, and professional networking opportunities that align with your academic and career goals.

If you complete an internship that is not tied to a course, you can still document it as a HIEE in GivePulse, reflect on your experience in your ePortfolio, and count it as a HIEE for the Wildcat Advantage program.
