Residential & Small Commercial Path

Work in the Architecture Industry as an architectural drafter, BIM modeler, architectural designer for an architecture firm, home builder, etc…

Alternatively, work independently as an architectural designer, creating single-family homes, multi-family residences (up to 4 units), or light-frame commercial structures up to 10,000 square feet.

Additional Education & Work Experience – Large Commercial Path

Complete an accredited architecture program (5-year bachelor’s or master’s degree).

Track 10,000 hours (equivalent to 5 years of full-time work) under a licensed architect.

Pass the 6 licensure exams:

  •   Practice Management
  •   Project Management
  •   Programming & Analysis
  •   Project Planning & Design
  •   Project Development & Documentation
  •   Construction & Evaluation

Get licensed in Utah.


Work Experience – Large Commercial Path

Track 10,000 hours (equivalent to 5 years of full-time work) under a licensed architect.

Pass the 6 licensure exams:

  •  Practice Management
  •  Project Management
  •  Programming & Analysis
  •  Project Planning & Design
  •  Project Development & Documentation
  •  Construction & Evaluation

Obtain licensure in a state that permits the work-experience-only path to licensure, then apply for reciprocity in Utah.
