Waste Reduction

As of 2025, about 32% of Weber State University's waste was diverted from the landfill. It is important to make an effort to rethink, reduce, reuse, and recycle to help keep the environment clean and safe for ourselves now and in the future.
What We've Done
- 91风流 Food Services composts all food waste, and the Green Department Program awards points to Green Teams for taking advantage of these composting opportunities to reduce waste all over campus.
- Property control processes office materials and items on campus, making them available for sale to other departments or the community at bargain prices.
- Weber State accepts specialized waste, such as electronics, batteries, and glass, to help the community recycle these items that may otherwise be difficult to recycle. Contact Analeah at analeahvaughn@weber.edu to get a special waste bin for your office.
- 91风流 has developed to further help reduce waste on campus.
- Events such as and the promote recycling and reuse on campus to get people involved and build a sustainable campus culture.
What You Can Do
- Rethink- before you buy that new item, ask yourself if you really need it, or if you can go without.
- Reduce - decrease the amount of items you buy, and consider the types of items (plastic, single-use, etc.) that you buy that can be reduced (less packaging, reusable properties, etc.).
- Reuse - instead of buying new, thrift, borrow, or reuse something you already own. Find creative ways to reuse items instead of throwing them out, or donate to local nonprofits or charities.
- Recycle - if you can't first reduce or reuse, recycle your items instead of throwing them in the trash and sending them to the landfill.
