WHY WEBER STATE

I originally chose Weber State for many reasons. It was a lot more affordable than most schools in the area. I really liked the feeling and environment of the campus. A lot of my friends from my small charter school were planning on going here, so I wanted to hang out and make college memories with them. I knew they had a really good business program that I wanted to get into. Lastly, I heard rumors that the professors really cared about their students and their success at the school and I'm very thankful that that those rumors were true. I couldn't have picked a better University.

WHY MTAX

I originally started out as a business administration major because I didn't really know what I wanted to do but I figure having a business degree would help me no matter what career path I chose. I ended up becoming an accounting major for a couple reasons. First, my Mom has a job where she uses her accounting and tax knowledge a lot so she kind of taught me about accounting and taxes for my entire life kind of by accident and I really enjoy talking about the topics with her. Second, I really love all the rules when it comes to accounting and all the math involved. Lastly, all of the accounting professors are truly amazing and they really go above and beyond for their students to make sure that they are successful both in their professional and personal lives. I wanted to continue learning from them on topics they were very passionate about that actually inspired me to become passionate about learning it as well.

PROFESSORS THAT CARE

I would say the thing that really stands out to me about Weber State is its professors. The professors were always giving it their all and would go above and beyond for their students by doing their best to make sure that they are successful both in their personal and professional lives. I remember there were a couple of professors that had some rough things that happened to them and their personal lives at the time they were teaching me and my fellow classmates, but they would always still make sure that we were taken care of and giving us the education that we needed. I also know that I could trust them to give me proper and high quality education. These things mean the world to me. Those things greatly inspired me to work even harder and do my best and all my classes. This even inspired me to become president of beta alpha psi (aka the accounting club), which has given me a lot of amazing opportunities for my career, experiences I'll never forget, and some lifelong friendships. I couldn't be more grateful for Weber State's professors.

PROFESSOR IMPACT

There are multiple professors that had a great effect on me. My professor Lisa Hopkins inspired me to become an accounting major in the first place and her ambitiousness and enthusiasm also inspired me to join the UACPA, which has given me a lot of opportunities to learn more about the accounting world. Professors Hanson and Davis gave me the opportunity to be the president of beta alpha psi (aka the accounting club), which is given me a lot of networking opportunities, unforgettable experiences, and lifelong friendships. Professor Smith and I had an opportunity to go on a study abroad together and he has given me a lot of great advice that has helped me excel in my tax internships. Professor Costello has greatly inspired me with her work ethic. She always goes above and beyond to give us all very helpful and insightful feedback and she's always there to help us if we ever need anything. Lastly Professor Pace gave me the opportunity to be part of a promotional video for the masters of taxation program. Also he also gave me some great advice about how important it is to always constantly invest in yourself by learning as much as you can about the career field that you want to work in so you can become not only an asset for your company but also an asset for yourself. That advice really changed the way I feel about learning and really gave me a love and curiosity for. There are so many more professors but in general all these professors have had a great effect on my life that I will never forget. I couldn't be more grateful for them and I will miss them after I graduate.

ADVICE FOR OTHER STUDENTS

I have some advice for someone that has just started at Weber State! Do your best, nurture the love for learning, and make it a fun experience. Learning new things can be difficult and frustrating sometimes - that's why it's important to make it fun and find joy in it. Those skills will greatly help you not only in your academic life but your career as well. We are not going to always know everything on the top of our heads so we have to know how to research how to get the right answer or do something properly, and if you enjoy the process, you'll go very far in life. Also college can be pretty difficult sometimes and there's going to be some days that you're going to have a rough time. My best advice for you is to take things one step at a time and to ask for help. You are not alone. There is always someone at Weber State that is willing to help. All you need to do is ask. And lastly, don't forget to make college memories and enjoy your time, this is a major chapter in your life, so do your best to make the most out of it. Weber State has a lot of fun events to go to, clubs to join, and amazing resources to help you be successful in your classes, in your career, and your personal life.

WHAT'S NEXT

For my next step in my life, I'm going to work my hardest to get my CPA license by passing all its exams and meeting all its requirements. Also, thanks to Weber State, I had a lot of opportunities to get to know and network with a lot of accounting firms and I've gotten a couple internships because of it. I'm going to be working for one of the top accounting firms in the country starting next year and I couldn't be more grateful and excited. One chapter of my life is about to end, but a new and exciting one is about to begin. Thank you Weber State University for everything.
