WHY WEBER STATE

I chose Weber State because I’m very family-oriented and wanted to stay close to home. Being only two hours away made it easy for me to visit my family on weekends, which was really important to me. My older sister was also attending Weber State at the time, and she had nothing but good things to say about it, which helped solidify my decision.

WHY FINANCE

Coming out of high school, I wasn’t completely sure what I wanted to study, but I knew I wanted a major that would challenge me and offer strong career options. I’ve always enjoyed working with numbers, so finance quickly stood out. I liked that a finance degree is versatile, provides good job security, and allows me to use my analytical skills. Studying finance has strengthened my critical thinking and helped me understand the financial side of the world, and I’m grateful I decided to pursue it.

MEANINGFUL EDUCATION

I feel like I made the best decision by choosing Weber. I love the smaller class sizes because you see many of the same people throughout your major classes, and it makes it easy to build real connections with other students. I also really appreciate how hard the professors work to make learning engaging and meaningful. They are always accessible and willing to help, and the one-on-one attention you get is something I feel bigger schools often lack. My experience at Weber State has been amazing, and I’m genuinely grateful for the people I’ve met and the opportunities I’ve had here.

PROFESSOR IMPACT

All of my professors have been amazing and genuinely care about their students, but Dr. Fan has made an especially strong impact on me. Dr. Fan is incredibly knowledgeable, and she consistently goes above and beyond to support her students. She took the time to ensure we truly grasped the concepts, encouraged us to ask questions, and was always approachable when we needed help. She deserves recognition for the dedication and compassion she brings to her teaching.

In addition, Dr. Turner has also made a significant impact on my education. He is extremely knowledgeable in corporate finance, and while his classes are challenging, they pushed me to work harder and think more critically. He sets high expectations because he knows his students are capable of meeting them, and that challenge helped me grow both academically and professionally. I’m grateful for the confidence and discipline I gained from his course.

ADVICE FOR OTHER STUDENTS

If I could give advice to someone just starting, I would tell them to stay curious, ask questions, and never be afraid to ask for help. The professors at Weber are always willing to support you. Stay organized, keep up with your work, and build good habits early. Don’t get discouraged by tough classes, because those challenges are what help you grow.

WHAT'S NEXT

I have accepted a full-time offer as an analyst at Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake City next summer. Until then, I plan to continue working at my current jobs, and I plan to take some time to travel before starting my new role.
