WHY WEBER STATE
All of my brothers attended Weber State and had great experiences here. They always had good things to say about Weber, which initially made me interested. Once I enrolled and started to go to classes, I quickly realized how good the classes were and how flexible Weber State could be in supporting my goals. I worked full time throughout my time here, and the way the university structured its courses made it possible for me to balance school and work successfully. That flexibility and support confirmed I had made the right choice.
WHY ACCOUNTING
I actually started at Weber as a mechanical engineering major because growing up I always thought I’d be an engineer. I loved building things and liked the idea of doing that for a living. After my first couple semesters, though, I started thinking about other majors I might want to pursue. A bunch of people—family, friends, co-workers—suggested I look into accounting. I asked my brother about it since he got his Master of Taxation from Weber, and he had nothing but good things to say.
So I looked into it more, ended up switching my major, and even got a job in accounting. After some time passed, I realized I wanted to stick with it because of how useful and applicable the degree is. Pretty much every company needs someone who understands their numbers, and accounting really is the language of business. If you understand accounting, you can understand how a business is doing and make better decisions because you know what the numbers mean.
I have been able to apply a lot of what I learn into my work, but I’ve been able to apply a lot of what I’ve learned to my own personal life too.
EDUCATION THAT WORKS
What really stands out to me is how much Weber met me where I was at in life. They worked with my schedule in a way I didn’t expect. I was able to work full time, still have a social life, and go to school because Weber offered class times and class formats that actually fit my life.
My professors were a huge part of it too. They taught well, but they were also super open and helpful. They created an environment where it felt comfortable to ask questions—whether it was as a class or one-on-one. I always felt like my professors genuinely wanted me to succeed and were willing to take the time to help.
PROFESSOR IMPACT
I can’t point to just one professor who stood out, but honestly, all the professors I had made an impact in their own way. I could tell they cared about me, my degree, and the career I’m heading into. They really worked to create the best learning environment possible, and they also gave us plenty of opportunities to network and prepare for life after college. That overall support is what really stuck with me.
WHAT'S NEXT
I recently got a job in mid-October as an FP&A analyst at Biomerics. My plan is to use what I’ve learned from my Accounting degree and my Finance minor to make a meaningful impact at the company, while also growing my own experience and skills. I’m excited to keep learning and see where this role takes me!
ADVICE FOR OTHER STUDENTS
I’d say the biggest thing is to stay dedicated and make time for your education. Like anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. I’m not saying you have to dedicate your whole life to school, but you do need to give it the right amount of time and attention.
I was able to work, go to school, still have a social life, and even got married during all of it—and it worked because I made time for each part of my life. When you manage your time and stay consistent, you can handle everything that comes your way and reach the goals in front of you.
GRATITUDE
I'm grateful for my time here at 91风流, it has impacted me in many positive ways. Weber's a great school, and I would encourage other people to come here. The professors truly want you to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
