The BFA Thesis exhibition is a showcase of capstone work by our graduating art and design students.

AHA! Award earned by professor Stephen Wolochowicz

Congratulations to DOVAD professor, Stephen Wolochowicz for winning a 2023 AHA! award. 

The Arts & Humanities Advisory Council (AHA!) furthers the mission of the Telitha E. Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities by providing expertise, financial support and community connections to support exceptional teaching, learning opportunities and community enrichment through art and cultural presentations.

 

Utah Construction Company's Connection to the O'Shaughnessy Dam

Students and faculty from the Department of Visual Art & Design were able to work closely with Special Collections to study the archive of images and research the history of the O'Shaughnessy Dam and area.  They then had the unique opportunity of traveling to the dam and surrounding area to work on a new documentary/re-photography project.  The images they made are now included as part of this exhibition telling the story of the O’Shaughnessy Dam and the Hetch Hetchy area.  

This was an exciting project that gave students the chance to work on an ambitious research project and gave them professional experience within their field of study.

Many of the works created for the project are currently on display on the third floor of the Stewart Library.

Faculty Spotlight: Andrew Rice

DOVAD's Andew Rice had a busy summer—read below to learn about his recent accomplishments.

Rice was featured in the curated email magazine, . Collé highlights the most forward-thinking, technically innovative and idiosyncratic collage artists of today.

He will be included in the next issue of the international collage zine, Cults-of-Life.

Rice was invited to present his work and lecture about the ideas behind the work in New Orleans at the international symposium on collage art, .

He was also invited to show in the Moving Target (with chair caning) Exhibition at The Real Tinsel gallery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in May and June.

New Faculty: Stephanie Kimmey

Stephanie Kimmey is an Assistant Professor of Ancient Art History.

She specializes in the material culture of the ancient Mediterranean world, focusing on Greek religion and ritual. Her research uses ceramics to better understand the daily lived experiences of everyday individuals. Her teaching also explores the wide range of classical reception in contemporary art, literature, and pop culture. 

Kimmey is also an archaeologist having worked since 2006 on excavations in Greece at Nemea, Mycenae, and Aidonia as a field and museum supervisor. She is the Collections Manager for the Nemea and Aidonia projects housed at the Nemea Archaeological Museum. These projects heavily inform her work on museum curation and cultural heritage management.
